Sketch: GALACTUS WORLD DEVOURER

galactus

World Devourer, word.

I am Devourer of worlds, unstoppable and inevitable. I am nether good nor evil, i just am. my herald speaks for me, so hear him. i am Galactus.

He is one of the most odd charaters i know of, and his original incarnation is the only one i can thing of as true. They have tried to update, and make the concept a bit more… Real? but it never works. Galactus to me is a giant purple mofo, who eats worlds. he just is. and here is just me sketch of him. not sure if i will take it further, but i might. you think so? let me know.

Bring it down a bit

Old man

Old Man

I was watching an episode of Kingdom with Stephen Fry. A quirky little British comedy. got to say i enjoy this show, for reasons i have not even come to understand. it takes you up and down, but never too far. Very British i guess. it was a scene that struck me as very well shot. so with everything i like, i stole that jank like it was cheese. just the composition really, to play wiht lights and darks.

These last few have just been done on the backs of crap pages in my sketch book. i didnt stress over composition. too much. at all i guess. just thought i would share.

Lady Pirates

lady pirates rock.

lady pirates rock.

Its been a rough start, but last night i wanted to draw. Even though the proportions and everything are not spot on ( as you know i am a stickler for rules of any kind) i wanted to get back in to markers.

This image i just a concept for a new project i am starting. I will reveal details as i come across them. but never the less i am excited about where i could be going with it.

Next up we have DARK MAN. I ran across this in my book, having just dicked around at a convention drawing this. i felt it should never see the light of day, just like the movie. but as all things are, this must come out. besides, Liam Nesson could in fact be reading this, so he will know.

DARK MAN

BAM!

Some of the odd movies that managed to come out in the 80s and 90s have now started to come back to haunt me. i don’t know why. especially the action movies that used Ex-Wrestlers and Sports Stars as the main Hero. Two that come to mind are Rowdy Roddy Piper, who has aged extremely well, and the BOZ Bosworth. These movies, however bad are an influence on our lives, and we must stop and reflect… but not learn from our mistakes, (Marines movie one and two i am looking at you).

anyway, i feel a tribute coming.

Its the Demon! A sketch...

It has been a while since i last updated a sketch… Fear not loyal follower of my work. (hi mom) i am back on the attack with a new sketch. i actually am already working on a full scale work (double the size) of the charater called Etrigan the Demon. I have quite enjoyed the sketch, and i think you will enjoy what has come out of it.

Let me know if you have any other sketch ideas or requests, and i will see what i can do.

Gorilla Grodd Sketch

Gorilla Grodd Sketch

Gorilla Grodd Sketch

In the vain of the Flash and his rogue gallery, i was playing around with a Gorilla Grodd Sketch, a super ape from a hidden city of super apes.

This was fun doing some research on the what gorillas look like, and then trying to incorporate a bit of human in to them. the biggest thing i noticed is that most of the images have him with long hair, so i lengthen the hair and kind of made him balding. and like all balding people, it makes you very angry all the time.

Not sure if i will take it further, but i was pleased so i decided to share… Enjoy.

Max and monster sketch

Max & Monster sketch

Max & Monster sketch

With the movie based on the book “where the wild things are, i decided to revisit some of my old children’s books. and low and behold i the book that started the revisit. then a friend turned me on to a site where people post images inspired by the book, Terrible yellow eyes. there were some rocking pieces on here, and some awesome everything else.

Anyway, got me thinking how i could do my own interpretation the story. right now its just kind of what i remember after one read threw, and a few inspirational images. But i am thinking of maybe making this a real medium piece, as in real paint. Not even markers! but i also may do it in digital. all depends on whats happening when i am ready to do it.

if you, my many readers, have any suggestions or stories of why you like this childhood favorite, let me know. comments and what not. Also as to why some of the images look taken with a camera, well that’s because they were. i am with out scanner for a while. when i get it back, i will re-post some of the crappier images so you may experience them in the fullest of glory!

new markers!

Testing out some markers

Testing out some markers

Got some new Copic Markers, found some Bristol paper, went to town with testing them out! I may have gotten these colors just so i could do a variety of super hero images. spider-mans, super-mans, and other red clad characters (and blue). Next set as you may can tell will be what i will call the aqua-man set. I just have to figure out why i would do something that silly. I mean seriously, aqua man?

But if you would like an aqua man commission, feel free to ask :d. I do Commissions. on the cheap. i need some cash to buy new markers.

on another note, i think i may visit some more conventions this year than usual, i may even be tempted to set up and sell if the price is right.

Deadpool Sketch

What is is pointing at?

What is is pointing at?

Got inspired by a Deadpool image earlier today, so i just got around to sketching it out this one is a bit different in terms of it has a bit of color. That is really want i wanted to work on, have the coloring be a bit more punchy and screen printy and less painterly. now i know i can man anything sound better buy just adding a “y” at the end of a sentence, but trust me, all these words and terms are real, even if officials of the world word organization refuse to recognize my knowlegey knowlege. So far this is still just spitting out ideas.

For the one person who may read this post, you can comment and suggest what he is saying and pointing at, the funnier the better. Remember he clinically insane like the three stooges were insane. Which is to say they were Brilliant! Now if i actually get feedback i will be amazed.  TALK TO MEEEEEEE!

Late night sketch

Nobi-fly in your hair

Nobi-fly in your hair

As the title states, this was done in the middle of the night, creative energy’s meet tiredness. Not that its bad, i am very proud of this one compositional wise. figure may be up for comment, but things like proportion and scale are loose guidelines and not really something to be held in the strictest of regards, unless you like that kind of stuff then ohh well. this one was inspired by my lovely wife, and her affection for animals, dogs being the top of that list.

not sure what direction of colors i would do with it, if at all. this is merely a sketch in which i may or may not go forward with the idea. I have to tell you now tho, that it is a strong contender for what i may be working on next. i think though for the short term at least, i will try and produce a series of sketch with the composition and shading roughed out, but not necessarily any more detail. I could also change that up and next post have a completely color sketch.

Stop signs are suggestions, and perspective should be wholly ignored.

New Sketch! THOR

Thor and his hammer.

Thor and his hammer.

This is a Thor Sketch i cranked out at lunch. I am think about taking it further, but right now i am content with it being what it is. I want to do many more quick sketches so that get in the habit of working on this stuff.

I am not going to be so cocky saying that i will a sketch a day, or a week for that matter. Truly i will make a concerted effort to do work on a consistent basis. also i will try and use the hell out of those 5dollar words. Since Hero’s Con in Charlotte, i have decided to really push illustration and art to that next level. That next level is not necessarily a professional level, but just one more step above where i am at. Right now i think that all i lack is the grind of practice. the doing it until its second nature, like adding a drop shadow in that right place to make a Design client freak out.

To that end, to any who may actually read this blog that’s not my mom, suggest a character, i will do quick sketch lunch time stuff for free! you don’t get a big copy and it will be a small file, but hey, Inspiration is payment enough Right?
